Aiight, I am super excited about getting these done. However with these choices, there are a few I’m debating on. So i wanted to get your thoughts and advice. I’m even considering doing two up, but that could be over kill. Let me know your loves and hates because I am not positive on the one I want to move forward with.

I like #2 and #4.
I’d like #3 if the “74″ wasn’t off to the side.
July 28th, 2008 at 11:14 am
i vote for #3 or 4. 5 is too conservative and the typography on #1 just doesn’t fit the composition. i really think #4 is the winner.
July 28th, 2008 at 11:21 am
I like #2 & #5. I like the die-cut on #2 and the Dog Tag feel of #5. However, I’m not diggin’ on the hole/circle between the eyes and on the forehead of #2. Maybe change it out with some pinstiping or something. Just my 2 cents. - S

#1 & #3 FTW!!!!
July 28th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Bad news is by the time everyone is done commenting, you are going to have all of them chosen!
They all look great. I like #1 and #3.
Nice work.
July 28th, 2008 at 11:48 am
My votes would have to be for #2 & #3. In #2 I really like the way you frame the 74 and your information….it connects your illustration to the rest of the card. #3 juxtaposes styles, the intricacy of your illustration with the simplicity of the card, which draws more attention to your illustration. My big question is…..What’s going on the back of any of these designs? Depending on what you decided to do that could add a new aspect in the design.
July 28th, 2008 at 11:59 am
i like 1 and 3 the best. I just had the same decision with mine but they don’t look as cool as that.
July 28th, 2008 at 11:59 am
hey dude,
nice layout. i would say 2 for sure. seems like the design that fits the die cut shape.
is there anything on the back?based on #2, if not, why not fill the front with a design and have your info on the back?
hey you checked out - http://4colorprint.com/ - have them send you some free samples. i’ve used them before and their silk cards are amazing (more durable than a normail card) they’re also pretty fairly priced. spot uv is also really dope on these cards.
cool man, keep up the great work.
regards
minga

I really like #1. Then #2. Then #4. The die-cutting is fantastic.
July 28th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I’m for 1 and 2, but leaning harder towards 1. Business cards are like mini-billboards - the easier and faster it is to discern the message, the more useful it is to the viewer. Both of these designs lead the viewer to the information in order of importance i.e.
1) Badass illustration 2) Firm Name 3) Contact info
#1 communicates the presented info the clearest and uses a slightly larger type size which is helpful for those people who would have this card pinned up on the wall or on the other side of their desk… sounds like such an insignificant detail, but you’d be amazed how lazy people can be.
… my 2 cents.
July 28th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
my comments are too long - i emailed you. hahahaha
July 28th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Hey, thanks. These are going to be laser etched by the way. I think i’m going to go with #3, but i do like #1.
July 28th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
# 2 and # 4 are SUPER )
July 28th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
#2 is my favorite.
July 28th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
2 and 3 - if you go with 3 adjust the spacing so the website doesn’t sit so close to the edge. Looks killer!!
July 28th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
3, 4… i think 3 is the best, but i have a problem with the 3 different font styles.. but i love whats going on in that one.
July 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
I actually like #1. I like the simplicity of it with the custom die-cut around the skull. Sweet, man!
July 28th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
I like #3 but I don’t think the 74 goes with the rest of the design. You might consider just putting the 74 on the back.
July 28th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
#2 & #3
July 28th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
i really love three.
i think its the strongest
July 28th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
#2 for sure…they all look great, but the dye cut on this one and the type treatment at the bottom sit very well with me!
Maybe try loosing the 74 and then making the flourishes around it more spread out…that way you can make the type a lil bit bigger, just a suggestion
July 28th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Call me too traditional, but I like #3 the best. The 74 looks a little lonely though. I’m not sure if it’s even really necessary.
Anyhow, whichever you use, it’ll still be a super unique card that screams Hydro style.
Peace,
T

#3
July 28th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
#2,3, and 4 are tight Josh. I like the die cuts and the subtleness on #4 is seriously rad. I like the size issue that Track6 brought up and I agree, but how many people wont remember this after you hand it to them or they open an envelope and it falls out.
I’m sure whichever you go with you’ll have a lot of positive feedback. Hope alls well and congrats on the new puppy man!
July 28th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
1 & 3…3 is my favorite
July 28th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
#3 for sure. No doubt.
July 28th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
#2
July 28th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
All of them look “hammer” of course! But I would take # 3.
Reason: it is the only card that does not only show a skull. So if you aren’t looking for “skull-jobs” only …
Also some type treatment is present!!
July 28th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
#2 fo shizzle. Love the gravestone feel.
Great work as always…
July 29th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Number three is my pick over all of the options. it is clean but still showcasees your illustration style in a unique way. Number two would be my second choice. It is pretty clean has a nice die to it the only thing is the centered type just doesn’t feel as solid, Plus with option three you get the script writing in there.

I like #1 and #5 for the simplicity and readability but I think #3 is the tightest design-wise. I agree with earlier comments that the “74″ seems out of place. I like the fact that it’s got a bit of graphics as well as type treatment and doesn’t pigeon-hole you in the “skulls” category.
Try to flip the “Hydro Seventy Four” text 180 degrees, since we read from left/right/top/bottom that way reading it would lead the eye into your contact info and just create a nice flow for readability.
July 29th, 2008 at 6:22 am
drop the die cut and rounded cornres on 2 and 3. Try lasering image onto cardstock, or printing glossy black ink on matte black paper.
July 29th, 2008 at 6:42 am
2, 4 or 5 are my favs.
July 29th, 2008 at 7:05 am
2 is money.
July 29th, 2008 at 7:28 am
#3 is my favorite, followed by #2
July 29th, 2008 at 7:33 am
MY FAVORITES ARE 2 AND 3. 2 BECAUSE OF A CUT OUT LOOK ITS NICE. 3 IT LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHERS AND I LIKE THE HALF AND HALF LOOK. IF YOU ARE PRINTING TWO CARDS YOULL HAVE TWO DIFFERENT LOOKS WITH THIS TWO.
July 29th, 2008 at 7:40 am
No illustrations. Keep it simple.
Just your contact information and your “Hydro Seventy Four” wordmark on one side. Maybe have the 74 numeric icon on the other side. Matte black card stock with a black foil stamp would be pretty sweet. Rounded corner diecuts are cool if they are a smaller radius then the example you have shown above. But who am I to say… Just a thought.
Your illustrations are amazing… but do they belong on your business cards? Maybe if you had 4 or 5 different illustrations… so that when you give someone your card it’s always different then the next person.
July 29th, 2008 at 8:33 am
1 gets my vote. feels the most balanced and solid.
2 is good too, but the info might be a tad small.
July 29th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Tuff one but I like #3 and #4
July 29th, 2008 at 8:57 am
#1 and #4.
But if you decide to go with a regular simple card then #5 is fine.
July 29th, 2008 at 8:59 am
#3 and #5. 3 the layout is nice but the 74 looks out of place. And 5 because it’s nice and simple, does what a BC is supposed to do. Clear contact info for potential clients.
July 29th, 2008 at 9:32 am
#2 is great!
July 29th, 2008 at 11:23 am
#2
July 29th, 2008 at 11:48 am
I like #3 and #4 -
I like the simplicity of the text layout on 4, and I like the shape of 3 as well as the demon. I’ve always liked that demon.
July 29th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
If you end up going with something like 1 or 2 and do a custom die, why not knock out the eyes and the nose of the skull and see what that looks like? Might be sweet
July 29th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
not 5. not that it’s bad, but it’s not as POW!
July 29th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
‘effin LOVE that ‘74′ type treatment/logo. its gotta be used on whatever you choose.
July 29th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
I’d Def go with # 3
Awesome layout, perhaps give the body copy a bit more breathing room though, cutting it a but close on the bottom right, maybe just a personal opinion though!
July 30th, 2008 at 4:20 am
it’s a contest between 1 & 3 definitely!!! hehehe
July 30th, 2008 at 8:12 am
I rather like number 2. I particularly enjoy the die cut around the head of the skull but all the ornamentation that you added to the bottom to incorporate your logo. Number 1 does achieve this idea in a more simple fashion but the type is not center justified like #2, I think that is perfect in achieving an asymmetry that is so calculated similar to your style.
Another reason I like 2 is that it stands out to me as completely different than pretty much all business cards out there. And this is great for someone who has such a unique style so a business card like #2 does reflect that in its shape, simplicity, and composition. I would also suggest that you look at getting these letterpressed. I know it’s a tad more expensive but with your design embossed into black paper stock with white ink it will give the card another tangible element that all will enjoy.
Overall these are all great examples of you as an artist and I guarantee all will be impressed, as I am! We should swap business cards, I would love to have any of these.
Good luck!
July 30th, 2008 at 8:39 am
I love the second…the others are awesome but num. 2 sticks out.
July 30th, 2008 at 10:23 am
#2 for sure - it’s a good mesh of skull and 74. And the die cutting looks killer! They must cost a million a piece, no?
July 31st, 2008 at 9:52 am
I like #3 + #4
I think they are the best representation of form, function and kick-ass awesomness!
July 31st, 2008 at 11:50 am
#2
July 31st, 2008 at 1:22 pm
I’m throwing down for #2 or #3-more for #2 tho.
they’re all great, but those 2 stick out most to me.
can’t add much to what everyone else is saying/ suggesting…
cause they pretty much covered the whole spectrum of critique.

i like #2 & #3.
peace
July 31st, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Really digging #1 and #3. #3 I think looks perfect.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Number 2 or 3 man. Number 1 looks like you struggled to work out how the skull should flow into the card, but number 2 looks like you solved that problem. Dont like 4 or 5 for the same reason. My only other concern would be that with the rounded edges on every corner, they look more like clothing labels than business cards.
As always your illustration blows my mind. Keep up the good graph. Peace
July 31st, 2008 at 8:42 pm
# 4 and I want one
The di-cut shows so much more effort than the regular shape with rounded corners

#4

i like #2 and #3 best.
Peace!

#2 & #3
August 7th, 2008 at 5:24 am
i like #2 the best
August 7th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
I like #1. Stands out really well due to the die cut and the type is real easy to find and read. #2 i think clutters the type and the others appear to be average business cards. Thanks for all the inspiration and keep up the amazing work. !
August 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
#4. Shows both clean layout and ass kickin illustration. The diecut around the the skull is a must.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:19 am
I like number four. I think the “74″ works as the logo for company and the skull graphic becomes art to support the company brand. Would also free you up to use variations of the skull art in other marketing materials.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
#2- no doubt, like everything symettrical and centered. The die cut affect is dope too.
