Among the various projects going on, I took some time to play around with some new illustrations. The first is a cyborg styled skull. I am planning on getting a little back into my ‘robotic’ style, but up it up a notch with some new techniques i’ve started to toy around with. The second is a pilot that I first mocked up in Photoshop, then did a rough sketch to high-light areas that i wanted to focus on. Over all, it was nice putting these together and a nice change from what I’ve been doing that is client related.

Ad for Kink BMX

Friday, April 4th, 2008

kink_kc.jpgJust wrapped up a ad for Kink BMX over in New York for Ride Magazine. When I first got into the action sports market, I never thought much about BMX. It wasn’t till I worked with Steve Buddendeck & Cory Muth that my appreciation happened. During my time working with them, got to meet some amazing pros like Chris Doyle, Collin McKay, and of course, the one sick day I took was when Dave Mirra stopped by the office..DOH! At the time it was great working with DK Bikes, Eastern Bikes and Giant. When I moved, I didn’t do as much in the BMX market so it was nice to have Buddendeck drop my name over at Kink and be able to assist them on their pieces.

It just dawned on me that today is the middle of the week. I was thinking it was Tuesday all day long, which was fine since there isn’t anything looming over me, deadline wise. However just took me back for a few minutes as I double checked to see what day it is. I also started to prep a image for a illustration I really want to dive into, & much like the other, this kept going further and further. But this time, i got the effect I wanted. I wanted a slightly velvet painted look, but not too obvious. Turned out okay, and I’m stoked on it. Lastly, as a side note… My birthday is coming up.. Hydro74 is a year older! whoot. This event happens on the 9th of April. Not even looking forward to it. I think I’ll throw a little party for myself when Chris Parks & Yasly join up with me to check out a local gallery event! You’re driving Parks!
