HYDRO74 RANT...Yesterday I went to Borders to look for some books and found this cheap DVD for $4.99. I remember a while back I saw the trailer of it and wanted to see it, so besides the price being really cheap, and the packaging being nice, I decided to get it. That night (Sunday) with the Simpson, Family Guy & American Dad (about the only time I watch Fox..) being reruns, I put the DVD in and suddenly got depressed. This Documentary is about the climate crisis and the wastefulness of the world, and mostly us Americans. I had mixed feelings of the evolutionary aspect that it presented at the beginning since I do believe in ideas of evolution, but also believe slightly in intelligent design (not that I’m advocating a religion because I don’t subscribe to that ideology anymore), but after on, the aspects of abuse without good stewardship of the planet had changed the dynamics of how the Earth reacts from human growth & greed. I was very impressed with it. Much like Al Gore’s Documentary, it shows the error in what has been done with possible solutions, but those solutions are only done when we become selfless and responsible in how we deal with our consumerism, waste and need for carbon producing objects. The part I did enjoy is that they did focus on the idea that it is far easier to break free from Oil to earth friendly mediums, however with the amount of power and wealth the Oil companies have, they dictate the political system. This is just a after thought and by no means did this movie advocate it, but after thinking about the true power wealth has given the major Oil producers, it is easy to see how Al Gore lost his race as he ran for President and that a former Oil Man who gains control of the the office, wages a war with a country that had no ties to 911 as well as focus on regions that still have large supplies of natural gas and reserves. So as a citizen of this planet…no, better yet, as a guest of this planet, along with the million others, why did we not care and allow 8 years of social, economical & environmental demise happen from fascist styled propaganda that has us fearful to question any true nature of the events that took place. We’ve became complacent and assumed we as individuals couldn’t do anything about no matter how much we disagreed with what was going on. I guess at the end of it, both the documentary & the short time I just thought about it, I realized I have been impacted, and have impacted with series after series of my own Americanized gluttony. We all want to live like Kings no matter the cost. I need to make my own changes and allow this to be my faith so that I wasn’t complacent on this issue, but did something for my children and future generations. What is wrong to treat nature as that, nature, rather than property that we can sell, trade, abuse, destroy, as well as destroy those who live and depend off of it, animals & humans alike. So with that said. It’s only $4.99, buy it. Proceeds for this go to nonprofit organizations. Watch it, see what you agree with and what you don’t. Now is not a time to be complacent and assume this is somebody else’s problem, issue or agenda. This is our agenda.

I hear you bro, there is so much fucked up shit going on and nobody gives a shit. They rather worry about Britney Spears snorting coke of some dudes dick than a sect of people that are bringing down the quality of life for greed.
Go to VBS.com and watch Garbage Island. It will make you sick. And nobody knows about whats going on.

The colony collapse disorder is also an alarming issue that is quite timely. Apparently, if the bee disappears from the face of the earth, we will die. No bees > no pollination, no pollination > no flowers, no flowers > no herbivores. no herbivores > no carnivores. This de-evolution s said, by Einstein, to only take four years from the day the last bee dies.

Totally agree and have been trying to inform people of the ease of switching to a less destructive way of living. It’s hard when as a species we do not like change. Everyone gets into a pattern/way of life that is comfortable and doesn’t want to make the effort to change it. Even if the effects of that current lifestyle are visible in every aspect of life in every part of the world AND throughout history.

The saddest part of the whole thing is, however bad the USA is today–with 300 million people, China is just now ramping up to finish the job. Their industial base is just about as advanced as we were in 1955–and their pollution controls as well, not to mention governmental corruption. China’s apparent hunger for world domination in manufacturing (as well as other areas) without regard to environmental impact makes heartsick for what the future will be. Thank God the planet has an incredible ability to right its self, but I fear that the tipping-point may be nearer than we all think. I believe there is a way that human kind can live in harmony with the spaceship we are riding on. While I generally don’t put much stock in conspiracy theories, I have to wonder if gasoline would have doubled in cost in a year if we had not had an “oil-man president” in he White House. I have no problem with people making lots of money–I want to be one of them– but it sure appears that something is fishy! Josh, thanks for your views on this subject, and your sensitivity to the environment we all share. A fellow earth guest…

People don’t change unless they have to and its going to come to that before anything real happens. Thanks for the heads up about the movie.

it was nice reading your post… cause its easy to let such a large issue slip out of ones mind with everyday in’s and out’s.
I bought 10 of these dvd’s and mailed them out to family members.

Hmmm… bees didn’t exist in the United States before the Europeans brought them. Ooops! Crazy “world is gonna end cause of the bees dying” theory is busted. But thats ok, when I was 12 I remember being told the “killer bees” were taking over and we had to watch out! They’re spreading because of the evils of man! Aaawwww! So we went from death by too many bees to death from not enough bees.
Hmmm, reminds of me…of… hmmm… ice age… ice caps metling… all within 20 years.
Not saying there is nothing to environmental concern because we should all be very concerned about the environment. But anyway demanding action “lest the lord come and smit the earth with a curse” probably isn’t the most reliable think to base our policy on. Especially not when it comes to putting food on the table tomorrow and the next day. You save your sacrafices that my children must make in behalf of someone 100 years from now who will probably be better off than I am for someone who wants to pay for it.
