Laser Engraved Wood Stickers

As a exploration with Karvt, I wanted to test out the concept of doing wood stickers that were laser engraved on various thin wood products from Bamboo, Cherry, Maple, etc.  Each sticker has a 3M backing that adds nice long lasting stick. The concept was to make something that would live on a phone or a laptop but not just be a solid object, but rather diecut (using the laser engraver to cut the pieces down).

These are raw prototypes to see what can be accomplished.  I'll probably run a couple of each for final until I find the fitting artwork that I would want to produce a decent number of.

Always think outside the box and challenge yourself!

Karvt Vs. Hydro74 Test Skins

It's always fun to do a parody of something from Disney, or Star Wars, which is now one in the same if you really think about it.  I also enjoy the fact of making something other than digital so it was time to annoy my friend over at Karvt.com to make me a couple iphone skins for the hell of it.  We might do a small number of each for the core die hard Hydro / The Wars fan, but nothing we are going to go nuts with.  These are some samples and currently one offs.

Arabic Calligraphy Study

At the end of March I had the opportunity to speak at Visual Arabia in Dubia in front of both Western & Middle Eastern Designers.  This event was rare chance to be able to visit the Middle East as well as take the opportunity to be inspired by the design culture and of course the Arabic Calligraphy that was around the city.

Since I love typography and seeing what forms can create viable and usable text, I started a exploration in using some core structures from Arabic Calligraphy and mixed with them with a Western progressive style.  These pieces are what occured during my study these past few days.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Alright, so once in a short while I'll throw up a little something for you to use and abuse.  This piece was a exploration piece and haven't found a use for it thus you now can have a shot at trying to abuse this file.

Download the Straight Razor Vector (Illustrator CS3)

*To those that run shitty free vector sites, you are NOT allowed to post this.
** If you want to use this file for anything... go ahead, it's royalty free.

Instagram Killed @hydro74

So the Apocalypse didn't happen, but on Instagram, there was one fatality, it was my Instagram account.  The @hydro74 is no more.  There was no warning, no hint, no email and left are 15k followers going 'Where did that motherfucker go..?

Here is the story.  Today (12-21-12) I started with a little font sale pic to trade fonts for beer money.  In my standard, not so saint like fashion a image was sent to me that I laughed at and posted.  The image was simple, a My LIttle Pony with a Fleshlight 'hooha'. (preview here)  After 20 comments in a few minutes of 'LOL', 'oh shit', 'I call seconds'... I went for a smoke break to check again and found that my Instagram account was shut down.  I post funny shit all the time along with booze i'm drinking, trips I'm on and some of my bad ass art I mouse click.  Very unexpected.

Doesn't look like there is much I can do except start a new Instagram @hydrosevenfour which sucks.  So, rule of thumb IG users.. show no fake pussy's!!!

If you are in Paris, come to this event.  A epic list of Artist, Brands and Musical talent.  Details here: THE BE STREET WEEKND!

Interview with Stickerobot

I was recently flattered by a request from the Custom Sticker Printing Crew over at  Stickerobot to do a mini interview for their site.  Over the last 5 years I've been dedicated and obsessed with their product.  Their vinyl custom stickers are the best in the industry and the fact they are silk screened just adds that little touch of perfection.  I won't lie, they are my favorite vendor and one of the nicest group of people I've ever had the chance to work with.

So in true Hydro74 fashion, I took advantage of this interview to drop some knowledge on who I would give free stickers too, who I would love to beat up, granted it would be vice versa and show off a few favorite artist that have influenced me over the years.

Go read this interview:  Hydro74 vs Sticker Robot

New Typefaces

I love typography and the ability to be able to create new typefaces.  Something about making a set of usable letters to define a style has always been a core passion.

Check out Legacy of Defeat for these and free typefaces as well!
